M/Sgt.William R. “Bill” Hitchman, U.S. Army Ret., 75, of Temple died Friday December 25, 2009 in a Belton nursing home. He was born June 9, 1934 in San Bernardino, California. Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday December 29, 2009 at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Dr. Tom Henderson officiating. Military graveside services will follow at Temple Garden of Memories. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Master Sergeant William Hitchman is retired from the US Army having served 26 years serving three combat tours, one in Korea and two in Vietnam. He also served the community as a Scout Master and Cub Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America. He attended Heights Baptist Church in Temple.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Marie Hitchman and two daughters. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Thomas and Denise Hitchman of Boise, ID and Stacy and Kathy Hitchman of Morgan’s Point Resort, TX; one daughter and her husband, Stephenie and Ira Douglas of Temple, TX; five grandchildren, Charlotte Humpherys of Kempner, TX, William Douglas of Temple, TX, Kelly Armstrong of Temple, TX, Matthew Hitchman of Ft. Campbell, KY, and Audrey Hitchman of Boise, ID.
