Biography


Ellen Boggs Adams, 97 of Temple died Thursday July 29. 2010 in a Temple hospital.

A memorial service will be held at Covenant Lutheran Church 10:00AM Tuesday August 3, 2010 with Rev. Terry Atkins officiating.

Mrs. Adams was born October 28, 1912 in Proctor, Texas the daughter of W.W. and Margaret Gaines Boggs. She graduated from Dublin High School. She graduated from Tarleton College in 1931 and received a B.S. from the University of Corpus Christi in 1955.

She married John D. Lynch in 1934 and is survived by one daughter Jonelyn Lynch (Crawford). She was a granddaughter of pioneer Comanche, Texas citizen, Joe and Ellen Gaines. She started her teaching career teaching in Erath, Comanche and Nueces County public schools in 1931.

She moved to Dallas in 1940 and worked at North American Aviation helping to build the B54, P51 and AT6 airplanes during the W.W. II effort. After the war she became an office manager and accountant for a wholesale electric company in Dallas where she worked for seven years.

In 1945, she became a credit and personnel manager for Slocum Electric Co. in Dallas. She later became the vice-president and accountant for a decorating firm in Corpus Christi for 8 years. She was a real estate broker in Corpus Christi and Stephenville, Texas during this time. Later she returned to teaching in Corpus Christi for six more years.

She retired after marriage to R. T. Adams, Superintendent of Schools for Austwell-Tivoli Public Schools.

In 1980 she moved to Stephenville and started her career as a real estate broker until her retirement in 1989.

She moved to Temple in 1999 where she resided until her death. She had been active in the Anchor Club, American Association of University Women, Pioneer Club (City Federation of Women’s Clubs), Newcomers Club, her local church Covenant Lutheran Church in Temple, several bridge clubs national, state and local real estate organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents a brother and sister.

She is survived by her daughter and husband, Jonelyn and Tom Crawford of Temple her grandson Douglas and wife Faye Crawford of Cortland, Nebraska great grandchildren Brian and T.J. of Corpus Christi, Texas and Crystal Waddell of Liberty, Mississippi. and 4 great great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Covenant Lutheran Church in Temple or the charity of the donor’s choice.
